Simple method to make candles

The days are getting shorter and darker. My energy starts to shift from yard work, garden, and flowers to painting, crafts, and indoor creativity. Making things and art make me feel good. One of my favorite things to make is candles. Candles are bright and bring light to the long dark winter days. Their flicker can relax the mind and body. The color reminds us of warmth and peace. Smells also invigorate our senses and fragrances can not only be nostalgic but lift the mood. We cannot look at the sun without burning our eye retinas. Fire can be looked at and it helps us focus and calm down. Fire and flame awaken inspiration. Making something beautiful that also smells amazing makes you feel accomplished!

To make candles:

  1. Pick out your candle safe container. Chose your wax (soy, paraffin, beeswax) that is compatible with your container.
  2. Measure the container width. You will need a wick type and size compatible with your container and wax choice. Measure your wax appropriate for your container. Wick container so it is ready for pour.
  3. Heat wax in double broiler until reaches it 185 degrees.
  4. Remove wax from heat and pour into heat safe container. Add a few drops of essential oil if wanted. Let wax cool to 135 degrees. Pour into container. Let sit for at least 48 hours before burning.
